Experience German history!

 1. Day – Arrival in Rothenburg. Check-In. We start the first day of our journey back to the history of German castles by the city tour ”behind the scenes“. During this special tour we get to know places like subterranean passages in the moats, the town walls leading to the Schäferkirche and we visit the kasemattes. The highlight of this tour is the visit of the Kaisersaal (Emperor Hall). After a snack, we will visit the medieval criminality museum, where we get a broad insight into the legal history, the laws and punishments of the last millennium. Dinner in an idyllic local restaurant. Overnight accommodation in Rothenburg.

■ 2. Day – Neuenstein and Schwäbisch Hall. Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Neuenstein. Today we visit Schloss Neuenstein. The formerly mighty water castle, constructed in the 12th century, was extended around 1560 to an enormous Renaissance residence. Of special interest are the Art and Historical Collections from former decades. Later on, we continue to Waldenburg, where we have lunch and visit the city. In the evening, transfer to Schwäbisch Hall. We visit the monastery Großcomburg and get fascinated by the tour through the antique Cromberg. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight accommodation in Rothenburg

 3. Day Neckarsulm and Heilbronn. Breakfast at hotel. After the last exhausting days, we will enjoy the relaxing half-day in the Aquatoll. The aquapark invites you to relax and to visit one of the six saunas. Just relax …After lunch, we will visit the famous salt-mines in Bad Friedrichshall and afterwards the Audi production plant in Neckarsulm. The rest of the evening you may go for shopping to find souvenirs and gifts for family and friends at home. Dinner on the Wartberg in Heilbronn. Overnight accommodation in Heilbronn.

■ 4. Day – Neckarsteinach and Neckarmühlbach. Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Neckarsteinach. First goal of the day is the visit of the castle ruins Schwalbennest. This is the newest of the four castles of Neckarsteinach. Afterwards, we continue to the castle Guttenberg in Neckarmühlbach. An award-winning museum is located in the oldest part of this castle. The exposition „Living in the Knight’s Castle“ tells us the story of the castle and its inhabitants. The castle’s tavern, situated in the shade of the old castle tower, invites for a “Speysen auf der Ritterburg” (historical knight meal). Then we continue to Bad Wimpfen, where we visit the Stauferpfalz and the Blauen Turm (Blue Tower). Transfer back to the hotel. Overnight accommodation in Heilbronn.

■ 5. Day – Schwetzingen and Heidelberg. Breakfast at hotel. This day starts by visiting the knight’s water castle and the adjacent French and English castle gardens. Later on, we continue to Heidelberg, where we will visit after lunch the castle of Heidelberg. This castle is known as one of the most famous ruins in Germany. Furthermore, it is the emblem of the city of Heidelberg. Today’s dinner will be served in the tremendous restaurant „Weisser Bock“, with its international reputation for extraordinary high-quality and creative cuisine. Let’s enjoy together this culinary delights! Transfer to hotel. Overnight accommodation in Wiesloch.

■ 6. Day – Dahn and Schwetzingen. Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Dahn. Today we visit the Felsenland (rock land) of Dahn. Giant rocks, like the Schiller rock, the Wegelnburg (castle of Wegeln) and the castle ruin Drachenfels (dragon rock) will impress us. After lunch, we continue to Eschbach, where we will visit the Madenburg. This ruin is one of the biggest and oldest castle complexes in Palatinate. Afterwards, we continue to Annweiler to make a tour at the Reichsburg Trifels. The view is overwhelming, as this rock castle is situated 310 meters above the town. In the evening we continue to Schwetzingen, where we check-in. Dinner at hotel. Overnight accommodation in Schwetzingen.

 7. Day - Karlsruhe. Breakfast at hotel. This day, we start with a city tour, on which we will also the Karlsruher Schloss. This palace was built in 1715 as the residence of markgrave Karl Wilhelm. Today it contains the Landesmuseum (federal state museum) and the Bundesverfassungsgericht (German Federal Constitutional Court, comparable to the US Supreme Court). At midday we continue to Erlenbach, to visit the castle Bewartstein. After the castle tour, we continue to Klingenmünster, where we will visit the Burg Landeck. For dinner we stay for an atmospheric knight meal in the castle. Overnight accommodation in Karlsruhe.

■ 8. Day – Rastatt. Breakfast at hotel. Here we start our tour by visiting the winter residence of “Türkenlouis” (nickname of margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden-Baden). Before our lunch snack, we visit the Wehrgeschichtliche Museum (Military Museum), where we will get a good overview about the German, especially the Southwestern ,military history. After our lunch break we visit the kasemattes, subterranean premises, to which the inhabitants flew in 1849 during the revolution years and used them as refuges. Later on, we visit the Schloss Favorite (palace Favorite), residence of Franziska Sibylla Augusta of Sachsen-Lauenburg, wife of “Türkenlouis”. The Schloss Favorite is the oldest of the German so-called Pocellain Palaces, and the only intact one. As a pleasure and hunting palace, it was only used for several weeks a year as a summer residence. Transfer to hotel. Dinner in a near-by restaurant. Overnight accommodation in Karlsruhe.

 

 9. Day – Karlsruhe. Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to airport or central station. Service package finished.
