Land of the Pope
To see the Land of the Pope you have three options. The first option is to visit on a Sunday morning just before noon for a chance to see him for free. You can also get a papal audience ticket in St. Peter’s Square/Nervi auditorium or a ticket to the Vatican Hall.
Arrival in Munich. – Transfer from Munich to Altötting. We will visit the Mercy Chappel as well as the Bruder Konrad Church and the Basilika St. Anna. Nice to see as well is the treasury with the famous golden horse and votive different Popes. Drive to Marktl Burghausen (short stop at the house) and return on the contemplative „Holzlandl“ (with a clear splendid sight of the Alps) to Altötting. The evening is at your leisure. Overnight in Altötting.
Breakfast at hotel. Continue to Traunstein. Visit to the St. Michael’s seminary of studies as well the Chiemgau-Gymnasium, where Joseph and Georg Ratzinger together graduated. Tour over the parish church of St Oswald. Next trip to the Chiemsee. Visiting the castle Herrenchiemsee and Frauenchiemsee monastery. At evening free time to your leisure. Overnight in Prien am Chiemsee.
Breakfast at hotel. Continue on to Munich. City tour “In the track of the new Pope.” Visiting the Liebfrauendoms (1977 Episcopa consecration and appointment as cardinal) and the Holy Blood Church in Munich-Bogenhausen (Kaplan from 1951-1952). Free time. The evening is at your leisure. Overnight in Munich.
Breakfast at hotel. Continue to Freising (place of study and as a university teacher as well as archbishop of Munich and Freising). City tour visiting the Mariendom (ordained 1951) with crypt (restoration of the nave to the end of 2006), and ancillary Domkreuzgang churches, with Domhof former seminary and Lerchenfeldhof (flat from 1953 to 1957). Visit the former Prämonstratenserklosterkirche Neustift (last visited on 1.1.2004 in Freising with fixed mass). Continue on to Regensburg. Short stop in Regensburg-Pentling. The evening is at your leisure. Overnight in Regensburg.
Sunday, 10 clock: Visit to the Holy Mass in the cathedral of Regensburg with the Regensburger Domspatzen. City tour through the Old Town. Visit of the Regensburg Cathedral and the University of Regensburg. Return to Munich – Possibility of a trip to the monastery Weltenburg.
